Cincinnati Art Museum has asked SOFA members to help program its fall film series. Initially this was open only to premiere members, who have contributed some great suggestions. Now, we have extended the deadline one week to give the entire community a shot. So think about your aesthetic favorites and send 'em in! (If your suggestion is chosen, you also are invited to take part in the post-film discussion.)
They are looking for works that have some relationship to any part of the museum collection or one of its special exhibits. They have found their audience prefers things outside standard Hollywood fare -- documentaries, foreign films and indie films are popular -- though they could be persuaded to show certain classics.
Fall exhibits include "Thomas Gainsborough: The Modern Woman" from Sept. 18 to Jan. 2; “Wedded Perfection: Two Centuries of Wedding Gowns” Oct. 9-Jan. 30; and “Vegas 360” running through Sept. 26.
More information on these exhibits, as well as details and examples of the museum's beautiful permanent collection, can be found at www.cincinnatiartmuseum.org. If you are moved to visit in person, remember: admission is free.
Each film will be shown twice on Sundays at 11 a.m. In addition, they are considering a special Halloween horror-movie night.
The Art Museum will pay all costs of booking the films, and credit SOFA as a co-sponsor. Museum administration will have final say over what is programmed.
Please send your nominations to me by June 23 to allow ample time for planning. Questions? Email, or call me at 513-325-0019.
