Happy with your 48 Hour entry? Don't let it sit on the shelf when the competition is over. Submit it to film festivals and show the world what kind of talent lives here. You can clean it up, recut it, expand it, or send it as is – but get it out there!
The 48 Hour rules allow film festival submissions; see your Team Leaders Agreement for details.
A few ideas:
Cannes Short Film Corner: This is the showcase that brought previous Cincinnati 48 winners “Held in Sway” and “Robot Love from Another World” to France. Anyone can register, for about $135. www.shortfilmcorner.com
Chicago Underground Film Festival: The longest running such event since the NY Underground closed shop. $20-40. www.cuff.org.
Trigger Street: Mostly an online showcase, also home of the Stella Artois Short Film Project which offers a $50K grand prize. www.Triggerstreet.com.
Two nearby festivals have special status: Winning short films at these fests are automatically eligible for Oscar consideration. (For a complete list of other Oscar-qualifying fests, see Moviemaker Magazine, www.moviemaker.com)
– Ann Arbor Film Festival. $30-50. www.aafilmfest.org.
– Athens International Film & Video Festival. $30-40. www.athensfest.org
That's a tiny sample. The easiest way to learn more is to register (for free) at www.withoutabox.com. Without A Box maintains a huge, searchable database of thousands of festivals around the world, sends reminders about call-for-entries deadlines, allows you to register and -- in many cases -- submit your work online.
