Sofa Members;
First congrats on Sofa's inaugural fundraiser today!
Second, The Ohio film incentive was signed by Governor Strickland today - and now both Ohio and Kentucky have incentives in place to lure production to the region.
25% rebate on Ohio spend – cap = 10 mil first year and 20 mil second year. Incentive retroactive to date of signing (today) though we are awaiting details on how to apply etc.
Once we hear from Development we will post extended information soon.
A big thanks to all of you for your help and support making this happen in both states!
Finally!

This is an excellent event for networking, because it is sponsored by the Chicago chapter of the highly regarded Independent Film Project.
From their call for entries:
"CUFF is well attended by programmers and curators from across the U.S. and abroad, leading to many additional opportunities for exhibiting filmmakers. In Variety, Matt Dentler, former SXSW Programming Director declares, '[CUFF] has spent 15 years earning a viable reputation for avant-garde and anti-establishment filmmaking, as well as a Midwest platform for the year's festival circuit hits.' Doug McLennan has a fine article about audience-building in the digital age here: http://tinyurl.com/ksv9xs. Defnitely worth checking it out.
This is his summary of advice. Pay attention to No. 8, re video. This is significant for SOFA, because our members have video skills that most arts groups don't have but desperately need. Which suggests all kinds of opportunities. Stay tuned for more on this topic.
10 Things:
1. The kind of audience you build matters as much as the size of the audience does.
2. Social networks show that community hierarchy is not only powerful, it drives loyalty.
Went to the Fringe kick-off last night, and had a good time catching up with Know Theatre folks and other friends-of-film.
FilmFringe, including some shorts that screened at Underneath and many others, opens tonight at 8:45 p.m. at Media Bridges. Second half runs at 6 p.m. June 6 at the Art Academy.
I highly recommend getting yourself out to at least a couple Fringe shows this week and next. The shows come from far and near, run less than 2 hours and tickets are only $12. It will give your creative sensibilities a kick in the pants!
The Ohio Film Office will be launching the Ohio Film Music Video Challenge on February 18th. The challenge is designed to support filmmakers throughout the state while partnering with Ohio educational institutions and musical acts. The production team has a 3 week period to partner with a musical act, create a concept, shoot the video, and post it to be judged (rated) on the official YouTube challenge.

Patton Wins Senate Support for a Motion Picture Tax Credit
Patton: Incentive could mean 1,500 new jobs for Cleveland immediately and more to come
Columbus – State Senator Tom Patton (R-Strongsville) today won Senate support for House Bill 196, legislation that would establish a state tax credit to encourage the production of motion pictures in Ohio and to bring all the jobs and economic activity that come with them.
Introduced by Senator Patton while a member of the Ohio House of Representatives, HB 196 would provide for a 25 percent, transferrable income tax credit for productions that have a budget of more than $300,000. The credit would be limited to only the first $100 million spent on production costs in Ohio.
